We have arrived in Kenya, and are beginning to settle in to our new home. We would love to put pictures up, but the internet connection here in Kenya is not so great. The promise from the authorities of high speed internet sits just around the corner... ("just three more months" they say). Unfortunately, folks have been saying this for the past 5 years. So, we are not sure if we will actually get high speed internet access by the time that we leave or not.
Since we arrived, we have heard many tales of the dangers of this city. Car-jackings, robbery and other crimes are, apparently, quite common. We have taken necessary precautions to reduce our risk as much as possible, which means that we stay in our very protected house after dark. This protection includes four high walls, a guard and two loud German Shepherds who enjoy communicating with the other canines in our neighborhood. Without quick internet, television, radio or the possibility to socialize with other folks in the evenings, we have slowed down our lives considerably. In some ways, this change is refreshing. We read, chat or study Swahili. We have cooked some meals common to the locals, and are pleased with the results. Mike, our watchman, has become a friend and principal informant of the local community. He has also endured our awkward attempts to practice the Swahili language. Life feels very different, and good. We keep reminding ourselves of the way that the Lord made it clear that we were to come to Kenya... and we wonder how that calling will unfold.

It must be really different to not have a lot of night time outings. At the moment, that sounds very refreshing! :)
Our family is taking the month of August for sabbatical/rest. It comes to us much needed. We just returned from several days in the mountains. It was exhilarating to be away in God's creation.
We love you guys...and miss you! It does feel like we are in Kenya with you both! :)
