Preparations

Jill and I have excitedly begun the process of preparing for our first child (most likely a girl, according to the sonogram)! We have borrowed a crib from some MCCer's, several changes of clothes from parents and teachers at Rosslyn, and a pack and play. The articles continue to roll in as folks pass on their no-longer-used supplies to us.

We, as well, have begun to purchase some odds and ends. Just the other day, we stopped by a store called, "Amani ya Juu" (meaning peace from above). This co-op which benefits single-women head of households gives participants sewing skills, and guides them in creating products that will draw a fair price on the market. The organization not only seeks to better the physical circumstances of participants through economic development, but also offers spiritual guidance, and encourages dialogue across tribal lines. Amani ya Juu has a whole room at their store dedicated to children and baby supplies. We saw cute stuffed animals, baby books, and child carriers. In the end, Jill and I picked up a colorful mobile that features an elephant, rhino, giraffe, zebra and lion (see picture above). We'll be happy to cart this item back with us to the States once we return as a reminder of our experience here.
